Bad Bunny and Jennifer Lopez have been keeping themselves busy this year and we’re only two months in. Just this week, Bad Bunny kicked off his The Most Wanted Tour in Salt Lake City, Utah meanwhile JLo released her ninth studio album This Is Me… Now, a sequel to her third studio album This Is Me… Then (2002). Her album release was accompanied by the musical film on Amazon PrimeThis Is Me…Now: A Love Story co-written and staring Lopez. Amid their busy schedules they’ve found time to dedicate to a non-musical passion both El Conejo Malo, 29, and JLo, 54, share: fashion. They will be joining forces with movie stars Zendaya and Chris Hemsworth as co-chairs for this year’s Met Gala, the annual fundraising gala held to benefit the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute in New York City.

Vogue announced the theme for this year’s Met Gala—set to take place May 6—will be  “The Garden of Time” to coincide with the Costume Institute’s exhibition “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion”.  The exhibit itself will include at least 250 items spanning 400 years from the Institute’s permanent collection, based on three zones—land, sea, and sky.

This is not the first time we’ve seen Latinxs chair the Met Gala, which launched in 1948. Past Latinx co-chairs include: Oscar de la Renta, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Gisele Bündchen, and Carolina Herrera, while Salma Hayek was an honorary chair along with her husband, François-Henri Pinault. Colloquially known as “fashion’s biggest night out,” the event is known for its A-List celebrity guests and extravagant, avant garde attire that makes waves each year on the Internet.

Benito, who has attended three times, show up last year wearing a 26-foot long floral train wearing a white suit with a backless blazer by by designer Simon Porte Jacquemus. It was in honor of the theme, “Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty” as the iconic designer was known to include botanical themes in his work. Meanwhile, JLo has attended 13 Met Galas since 2004 and last year she wore a black and white Ralph Lauren velvet cutout gown with a fascinator.

“I got to meet [Lagerfeld]. For a little girl from the Bronx who kinda aspired to be in the fashion world and to be an entertainer, to meet people like that was always such a dream to me,” Lopez told Vogue.

The exhibit will run May 10-Sept. 2, 2024.
