Researchers, parents and doctors have spent decades trying to understand autism, one of the fastest growing developmental disorders in the United States. It is safe to say that almost everyone will know someone with Autism or know someone affected by Autism in their lifetime. It’s been difficult to find treatments that work and the treatments that have been effective often take years to show dividends. This is what I saw when I created the Wellness Institute of Neurodevelopment (WIN). As a doctor and a mother, I just decided I was going to do something about it and create a clinic that specializing in tackling many of the most difficult aspects of treating children with Autism.

I am very proud to say children and adults with Autism, ADHD and other neurological conditions can improve to their maximum potential in the shortest amount of time without resorting to treatments that have side effects. WIN, located in Puerto Rico has established an approach unlike any other program in the world. WIN, a manifestation of my passions in medicine, aims to do one thing for each patient – provide individualized treatments that change quality of life. WIN often redefines the trajectory of a patient’s life – how they talk, how they listen, what they can play with, who they can play with, their interaction with loved ones, their ability to work and their ability to integrate into a community, school and be successful.

There are two ends of the spectrum when seeking treatment for Autism – one end focuses on medication and traditional therapies while the other focuses on the medical cause of autism, where and when the brain was affected and how I can stimulate the brain to see improvements. WIN provides a unique method, The Franceschi Method, which combines a comprehensive evaluation, an individualized treatment plan and neurostimluation to specifically target inactive skills and while engaging new skills. In essence – WIN is retraining the brain, the body and the person to achieve their best self.

WIN’s focus has historically been on the pediatric and adolescent populations but WIN also serves adults. Through our distant therapies and therapies delivered in Puerto Rico, WIN has provided services to patients from numerous locations outside of Puerto Rico including, India, Texas, New York, Chicago, Mississippi, Florida, etc.

A fascinating study from Drexel University found 58% of young adults with autism when compared to their peers with disabilities had the highest rate of unemployment. WIN focuses on the entire patient regardless of what developmental stage a patient may be experiencing with autism – maximum engagement in life and improve overall health are two primaries milestones included in each individual treatment plan for each WIN patient.

As one of the many clinicians around the world offering an approach to treatment Autism, it is important to note WIN recognizes the benefits of existing and often insurance approved standard of care treatments for Autism. As each patient is different and each caregiver’s journey is different, WIN appreciates the path that leads each patient to WIN. One of WIN’s biggest advantages is the cost benefit of services to results that can be provided to a patient and his or her caregiver network.
