Cardi B Cancels Shows Due to Plastic Surgery Complications

Cardi B was forced to cancel a few concert dates after experiencing some complications from recent plastic surgery. The Bronx rapper was scheduled to perform at Baltimore’s 92Q Spring Bling Festival on Friday, and the Saratoga Performing Arts Center in upstate New York on Saturday and Sunday. All of those dates have been canceled and rescheduled for September. Her rep said she would be back with her regularly scheduled shows by June.
“Cardi was overzealous in getting back to work,” her rep said, according to The New York Post. “She didn’t take the time necessary to recover fully. Her strenuous schedule has taken a toll on her body and now has been given strict doctors orders to pull out the rest of her performances in May.”
The issue stems from her recent liposuction and breast augmentation, a procedure she’s done before. The Post reports that the artist told fans at a recent concert in Memphis that she shouldn’t be “performing because moving too much is gonna f*ck up my lipo.”
Cardi has been very open on social media about her plastic surgery. She admits that while she is skinny by nature, her pregnancy changed her body. Earlier this month, the 26-year-old rapper told Entertainment Tonight that getting plastic surgery isn’t something painless or easy that people do, and admitted that it’s actually excruciating. She’s been candid about her surgeries because she wants women to know how tough the recovery process really is.
“I want to explain to people how hard it is to process. I feel like a lot of people look at girls on Instagram and think, ‘Oh, they got their lipo done, and it was so easy,'” she said. “It is just such a long, hard process, almost like the same process as after you give birth to a baby and you see your body change and snapping back.”
The downtime healing process for plastic surgery is no joke. While recovery is usually quick, it can take up to two weeks or more for certain patients. You will experience bruising, swelling, and soreness for longer.
Last year, a couple of months after giving birth to her daughter Kulture, Cardi had said that she did lose a lot of the baby weight, however, she noticed extra skin and didn’t like the way it looked.
“A lot of people think that I got lipo. I really, really didn’t. I’m naturally skinny so I got slim real fast. But my body’s still not where I want it to be,” she said in a video. “I still got like a lot of love handles right here. They’re not much, but I’m used to having a real tight stomach, so it’s like seeing all this extra skin and sh*t, where the f*ck did you come from? I might just get a little lipo, you know what I’m saying? I will get my boobs done over,” she added. “I just don’t know when I’m gonna have the time to do it because I don’t think I got a whole month or three weeks for recovery.”
Looks like she needed more time than she assumed she would. The issue is that every woman recovers from childbirth differently. Some women can jump into go mode soon after delivering their baby, while others take a lot more time. There is no standard for how women should look, but there’s pressure, especially for women who make a living based on their looks. For Cardi B, it’s no different. It’s just refreshing to hear a celebrity being so open about it when we know other celebs fake a comeback and pass it off as natural. We know better. It’s also important to see a celeb point out some of the dangers and side effects of getting a procedure done like lipo and why it’s so necessary to give yourself time to recover. This is just further proof that regardless of how much money you may have or how much access you may have to the best surgeons, anyone can experience plastic surgery complications. Once again, we appreciate Cardi for keeping things real.
