If you’ve heard Cardi B’s red-carpet interviews or follow her on Instagram, chances are you have a pretty solid idea of who she is. The girl is candid, hilarious, and her language is definitely off-color. In other words, you probably wouldn’t want a small child around to witness Cardi twerking or talking about how good her p*ssy is. The Bronx rapper said she’s been trying to uphold a “role model” title that was placed on her — not by choice. For the past two years, Cardi B has not been her true self but instead, a watered down version.

In a Twitter post, Cardi B admitted that in many ways she’s been putting up a front, acting as a role model — a title she can’t live up to regardless of her actions. Her comment came in response to a young woman named Kenidra Woods, who’s a mental health advocate, activist, and author, who said she couldn’t support Cardi because of her vulgar ways. But people seem to forget that Cardi never asked for this title.

“I love you A LOT, but I don’t agree with the messages you’ve been sending us young girls,” Woods tweeted. “So many of us look at you as a role model, and that should send a very loud message.” Woods tweeted that comment after Cardi posted an illustrated picture of two people engaging in a sexual act. Cardi then tweeted “I’m just nasty like that.”

After Woods replied to Cardi, the rapper said she was done with trying to be a role model. She tweeted that for the past two years she has felt sad and trapped. She also said that acting as a role model has only made matters worse for her because people are still criticizing her because of her past.

Cardi’s comment about her past comes after receiving backlash for a video that surfaced in which she said that years ago, when she worked as a stripper, that she would drug men and steal their money.

“[People] must’ve forgot [sic]… the [expletive] that I did … to [expletive] survive,” she said in the video. “I had to go strip… had to go ‘oh yeah, you want to [have sex with] me?’ And then I drugged [expletive] up, and I robbed them…Nothing was [expletive] handed to me.”

Cardi said she’s done pretending to be someone she’s not, but if we’re seeing a toned-down version of Cardi B today, we can’t imagine how much more explicit the real Cardi is.
