Cory Booker is in! Another candidate is adding his name to the now long line of Democratic politicians looking to be the next President of the United States. Last night, the New Jersey Senator announced that he is officially running via an email message and video.

“In America, we have a common pain,” the 49-year-old says in the video. “But what we’re lacking is a sense of purpose.” Those are some hard-hitting words, and a great way to get people excited about his campaign. Here’s that video below.

“I believe that we can build a country where no one is forgotten, no one is left behind; where parents can put food on the table; where there are good paying jobs with good benefits in every neighborhood; where our criminal justice system keeps us safe, instead of shuffling more children into cages and coffins; where we see the faces of our leaders on television and feel pride, not shame,” Booker said via email. “It is not a matter of can we, it’s a matter of do we have the collective will, the American will? I believe we do. Together, we will channel our common pain back into our common purpose. Together, America, we will rise.”

So far, Democratic candidates running for president include Elizabeth Warren, Kirsten Gillibrand, Kamala Harris, Julián Castro, Tulsi Gabbard, John Delaney, Pete Buttigieg, Andrew Yang, and now Booker. The list is not finished. There’s still plenty of other candidates that will surely jump into the race including Beto O’Rourke, Joe Biden, Bernie Sanders, and possibly Hillary Clinton.

While these are all strong contenders, there are clearly some names that Americans know a little bit more than others. There’s also a good balance between veteran politicians and newcomers. We will just have to wait and see what the people have to say. As for Booker, people on social media did express their excitement over his announcement.

“Cory Booker launches a presidential bid with a website translated into Spanish,” @Samynemir tweeted. “One of the first interviews in @DespiertaAmeric. If any candidate is serious about running in a new America, they must care about issues of Latino communities**, hire Latinxs & content in Spanish & English.”

@mattklapper tweeted “I started my work for Cory Booker 19 years ago when he was a councilman and I was a high school student. I’ve stuck with him because you won’t find a kinder human being or better leader anywhere. I’m so excited for the country to get to know him.”

One of the big reasons Booker’s name is so prominent as a politician and within the Democratic party is because he has been a loud advocate for women’s issues, immigrant issues and so much more.  He’s also not afraid to head-to-head with President Donald Trump.

Here’s a taste of what he brings to the table.
