Staying sober isn’t easy, not by a long shot. Ask anyone who’s trying sobriety; it is an everyday challenge. That means each day that you remain sober is a victory. For Demi Lovato who’s now six months sober, this moment is significant. To recognize this monumental achievement, Lovato sought out a single rose.

The singer reached out to Los Angeles tattoo artist Daniel Winter and requested that he tattoo a single rose on her finger as the symbolism of her six-month sobriety. Winter, who’s known for his subtle single line tattoos said in an interview with Ink magazine that Lovato reached out to him via his DMs on Instagram.

Demi talked to me for a little about what she wanted, a rose came to her mind and asked me to draw her a unique fine-line tattoo,” Winter said. “So the single stemmed rose was it!”

The tattoo itself is quite beautiful, and it’s located perfectly on her index finger. Winter also explained his methodology behind his signature artistic style.

“My aesthetic has always been the finest of lines,” he said.”When doing feminine finger tattoos, I tend to lean toward more simple, less is more approach.”

Lovato hasn’t spoken much publically about her life post-rehab, which she entered after being released from the hospital last summer. The singer was admitted to a hospital in July after a suspected drug overdose.

Last month, Lovato did speak out to fans via Twitter, saying that she was working hard at her recovery.

“If I feel like the world needs to know something, I will tell them MYSELF. Otherwise, people stop writing about my recovery, because it’s no one’s business but mine,” she tweeted. “I am sober and grateful to be alive and taking care of ME ✌? Someday I’ll tell the world what exactly happened, why it happened and what my life is like today…but until I’m ready to share that with people please stop prying and making up shit that you know nothing about. I still need space and time to heal…I would love to set the record straight on all the rumors out there but I literally don’t owe anyone anything so I’m not going to. All my fans need to know is I’m working hard on myself, I’m happy and clean and I’m SO grateful for their support. ? I’m so blessed I get to take this time to be with family, relax, work on my mind, body, and soul and come back when I’m ready. I have my fans to thank for that. I’m so grateful, truly. I love you guys so fucking much ? thank you ??.”
