Just weeks after Demi Lovato celebrated her sobriety, the singer released a track that exposes her heartbreaking truth. Yesterday, Lovato released her latest single titled “Sober” in which she reveals that she isn’t sober anymore. For anyone thinking this track is either a stunt or perhaps “just a song,” on her Instagram page she wrote: “my truth.”

The lyrics in the ballad are incredible raw and true to her battle with sobriety, which the 25-year-old has been extremely vocal about for most of her career. The song feels more like an open letter to her fans, her family, and to herself:

“I got no excuses

For all of these goodbyes

Call me when it’s over ‘Cause I’m dying inside

Wake me when the shakes are gone

And the cold sweats disappear

Call me when it’s over

And myself has reappeared

I don’t know, I don’t know, I don’t know, I don’t know why

I do it every, every, every time

It’s only when I’m lonely

Sometimes I just wanna cave

And I don’t wanna fight

I try and I try and I try and I try and I try

Just hold me, I’m lonely

Momma, I’m so sorry, I’m not sober anymore.”

Lovato has been receiving countless of messages of support on social media including this one from  who writes: “demi lovato’s ‘sober’ serves as a painful reminder that recovery is a lifelong process + you don’t simply outgrow addiction. it’s a daily battle folks + it’s easy to slip up.” writes: “Sober is the most heartfelt, raw and real song I have heard in a really long time. It’s not a manufactured song, it’s the song of a true artist bearing their soul.”

Iggy Azelia also tweeted saying: “waking up listening to sober. Im proud of you for having the guts to reveal your truth to the world again. NOT. EASY. Im here for you friend! (you know this) I pray you’ll choose recovery again. All of us who love you only want to see you happy and heathy.”
