In 2017, Drake had a son. Back then he didn’t say anything about it publically, it was all rumors and salacious gossip. His image was that of a bachelor who was still hung up on Rihanna that was cozying up with Jennifer Lopez. Being a father just didn’t fit into that lifestyle.
In 2018, however, the Canadian rapper did acknowledge that he had a son, but he did so forcefully. Pusha T released a diss track titled “The Story of Adidon” in which he outed Drake’s son and the mother, French artist Sophie Brussaux. Drake fired back with his album Scorpion in which he raps on “Emotionless,” “I wasn’t hiding my kid from the world, I was hiding the world from my kid,” he raps. He continues: “Breaking news in my life I don’t run to the blogs/ the only ones I want to tell are in my phone I can call/ They always ask, ‘Why let it run if it’s false’/ You know a wise man once said nothing at all.”
He further rapped about Brussaux, fathering a child and co-parenting, on the track”March 14″ by saying, “Yesterday morning was crazy, I had to come to terms with the fact that it’s not a maybe / That shit is in stone, sealed and signed / She not my lover like Billie Jean, but the kid is mine / Sandy used to tell me all it takes is one time, and all it took was one time/ Shit, we only met two times, two times! / And both times were nothing like the new times/ Now it’s rough times/ I’m out here on frontlines, trying to make sure that I see him sometimes/ It’s breaking my spirit/ Single father, I hate when I hear it / I used to challenge my parents on every album / Now I’m embarrassed to tell ’em I ended up as a co-parent / Always promised the family unit / I wanted it to be different because I been through it, but this is the harsh truth now.”
The incredible thing that two years since he released that album, Drake is changing his tune on father and family. The rapper proudly shared pictures of his son and Brussaux, saying that in these uncertain times, family means everything. Here’s more pictures of his son, Adonis.
“What is most important for you right now is to connect to your own inner light,” Drake wrote on Instagram. “This will create the biggest opening of all. Trust that you have all of the power within to make this happen, and in order to do that connect to the people and things that bring you a lot of joy. When the mind starts to move into overthinking or fear, shift your attention right away to something bright. It doesn’t matter what has happened in the past or what is happening around us now, you can always make the choice to break free of the wheel of suffering and panic and open up to your own light.”
“We are powerful manifestors, so once you make the choice in the moment to shift your awareness to something good, it will show you in your reality,” he added. “Be conscious, especially right now of fears coming in from others, and recognize that not everything should be held by you. Laughter is your best medicine, but tears can also be a powerful release. Let go of any judgment you may have around that.”
“Remember that you are never alone, and if you need to be reminded of that ask for support and it will show up,” he wrote. “Everything comes down to intention, and even though there are conflicting energies circling around us you must KNOW…It will rebuild. But in order for that to happen, you have to do exactly that. Trust. You have the biggest heart and that is your greatest gift. It’s impossible to always control your surroundings, but when you shift the focus to how you want to feel, everything will conspire to assist you. I love and miss my beautiful family and friends and I can’t wait for the joyful day when we are all able to reunite. Until then please keep your lights on.”
In more Drake news, on Thursday the rapper will release a new single called “Toosie Slide” and he picked the perfect time to do it. We have nothing else to do but listen to music and look at these adorable pictures of his son.
