Living alone is a mixed bag. On the one hand, having a space all to yourself can be so freeing, but on the other, it can also be a little isolating. We were recently told about an amazing artist named Yaoyao Ma Van As who has perfectly illustrated the wonders of being single and living alone. She’s a painter and “occasional animator.” Her work can be seen on “Rick and Morty” (Adult Swim), “Future Worm” (Disney), and “BoJack Horseman” (Netflix). And while her body work is extensive, we’re really obsessed with her Instagram account.
Ma Van As has countless images of what it’s like to be a woman. What makes her pictures so tender and moving is that she shows all sides from being scared to being curious, from making eye contact with someone interesting to pondering lives greatest mysterious. Yes, it’s all there.
