This year will mark the 25th anniversary of Selena’s death and in honor of her legacy the San Antonio Spurs have announced they’ll host the NBA’s first-ever Selena Night April  3 at AT&T Center when they play against Golden State Warriors. In a press release, Spurs Sports & Entertainment said that the Queen of Cumbia’s legacy “goes far beyond music,” KENS 5 reports.

“She continues to inspire generations of fans to celebrate culture and connect with each other – both of which are central pillars of the Spurs experience,” Becky Kimbro, Spurs Sports & Entertainment Vice President of Strategic Brand Engagement said. “We are honored to bring that legacy to Spurs fans with our first-ever Selena Night in April.”

The night will feature the launch of an exclusive 20-piece Selena x Spurs collection including men and women’s apparel. A special online merchandise presale featuring two pieces of the collection – a unisex short-sleeve t-shirt and a drink tumbler – will begin Wednesday, Feb. 5 at SpursFanShop.com, according to News 4 San Antonio.

Having the Spurs reach out with this amazing idea to honor Selena was exciting to say the least,” Suzette Quintanilla, CEO of Q Productions said, reports News 4 San Antonio. “I have been to Spurs games and have witnessed first-hand how Spurs fans get pumped up and love to sing along and dance when they hear our music. It just makes sense – it’s a Texas thing.”

Commemorations to Selena in San Antonio are commonplace with the city revealing a Selena-inspired Catrina statue and a local mural artist dedicating artwork to the iconic singer.
