A 13-year-old boy is in critical condition after two boys allegedly attacked him on Sept. 16 at Landmark Middle School in Moreno Valley, California. According to The Press-Enterprise, two 13-year-old students have been arrested in connection with an attack on campus.

The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department tweeted, “Deputies are still investigating what led up to the physical altercation. We don’t have any further releasable information at this time. We are working in conjunction with the school district to ensure the safety and security of students and staff.”

Patty Rodriguez, the co-founder of Lil’ Libros and a producer of On Air With Ryan Seacrest, tweeted that the victim is her nephew.

“This is my nephew. He is 13 years old,” she tweeted. “He is on life support fighting for his life right now because he was attacked at school. I am so angry. And I cannot understand this. It’s senseless, and I cannot begin to understand how anyone can do this to such a gentle child. I don’t understand. I don’t. If you are reading this please, I beg you pray for him. His entire family is falling apart. This is their baby boy. Please pray. I believe with all my heart that God is here with him. Please pray. My heart is completely shattered in a million pieces.”

A 15-second video on social media shows the initial confrontation at the school. One boy can be seen punching the victim. The victim falls to the floor, hits his head on a pillar, and remains down. The attacker then appears to lunge at him, and that is when the video ends. Riverside County Deputy Sheriff Robyn Flores told KTLA that if anyone else has footage of the attack to turn it over to police.

“The safety and security of our students is always our top priority,” Moreno Valley Unified School District spokeswoman Anahi Velasco said in a statement, according to The Press-Enterprise. “We are collaborating with the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department – the Moreno Valley Station – to conduct a thorough investigation.”

According to news reports, there have been several previous altercations at the Landmark Middle School in Moreno Valley.

“I’m really scared for my grandchild that goes here,” Teresa Cortez told KTLA. “I really am, because I’ve heard about too many fights that are happening.”
