New Year 2022 Rituals & Limpias For Each Astrological Sign

As we begin setting our intentions and vision board building, you’ll want to consider doing a limpia (cleanse) of your home, mind, and body in order to welcome the magia awaiting us in 2022. Time to let go of the old and release the past. The New Year symbolically means new chances. Hit the reset button because there’s no time for regret. 

We begin 2022 with a new moon in Capricorn on Jan. 2nd. New moon cycles are a time to open new roads and pursue initiations. Having a new moon the first week of the New Year is the perfect opportunity to increase your abundance with any intentions set!

Not sure where to begin or which rituals to do? I’ve compiled your annual rituals and limpias for your Zodiac sign to bring in 2022 with that mera mera energy. Read on for your sun or rising sign(s). 

Aries

As the first sign of the Zodiac you rule the head and body, Aries. Oftentimes the athletes of the zodiac, you’re very in tune with your body’s needs. As you close out 2021, here’s a ritual to reconnect with your body through a self-love devotion baño (bath). 

Items needed:

1. Pot any size filled with water. 
2. dried tamarindo (Tamarind) husk (3-6 husk shells)
3. Two handfuls of dried bay leaves
4. Two handfuls of fresh rosemary 
5. Dried hibiscus flowers (3-6 flowers) or dried hibiscus 

Ritual Steps:

1.  Fill the pot with water and boil water alone.
2.  Once water boils add your recipe items. Allow to boil altogether for 7 minutes. Turn off and cool. 
3.  Create an intention of what you wish your body to know. How you will commit to being a better ally to your body. Recite over pot.
4.  Mix herbs and water. Strain and pour liquid into your half tub of warm water. 
5.  Connect in gratitude with the element of water for its assistance.
6.  Enter the bath and take your time connecting with your spiritual bath (baño). Reflect. Stay minimum 7 – 10 mins. Conclude.

Taurus

Taurus, you might’ve had some extreme highs and some lows with money. Finances were a key focus this year for you. Being the sign that rules finances and virtues, naturally, we’re recommending a prosperity baño (bath) for you. Gemini

The final full moon of 2021 in Gemini on Dec. 18th is clearing out tons of stagnant energy for you! You’ll want to put together a stronger enforcement of spiritual protection as you begin the new year with releasing negative energy in your life. Here’s an all-purpose spiritual protection bath (baño). 

Items needed:

1.   Pot any size filled with water. 
2.   Handful of dried Rue (ruda)
3.   Fresh lemon peels (2-4 lemons)

Cancer

Working with the element of fire might seem out of your element. However, as a Water sign, you tend to go with the flow a little too passively. A fire ritual can help you feel energized headed into 2022. Use the following candle fire limpia (cleanse) to get you passionate and full of momentum to achieve your goals. Perform a full body fire limpia to cleanse your aura. 

Items needed:

1.       1 new glass 7-day black candle 
2.       An intention for what you wish to banish from your energy field. 
3.       A quiet and private place.

Ritual Steps:

1.  Call in any higher power to join you to oversee your ritual for protection and heal
2.  Cut the candle wick slightly before lighting. Hold your candle with both hands and meditate with it to set your intention into the flame.
3.  Intentionally light the wick. Connect with the flame of fire. Gaze into it to connect. Give gratitude to the element of fire for its assistance in this ritual. 
4.  Safely from a short distance above the flame, sweep the energy of the flame over your room. You’re sweeping the unseen energy of the flame and not actually touching the flame at all. Do not burn yourself or anything. 
5.  Sweep the energy of the flame with your dominant hand cupped as if you’re grabbing air and begin sweeping from your head down to your feet.
6.  As you sweep the sacred energy of the fire safely, visualize your aura releasing any low vibrational energies and strengthening. Ask the fire guardians to protect you and work alongside you in 2022 for passion and tenacity. Take your time. Reflect. Conclude.

You’ll head into 2022 feeling extra intuitive and magical. Your psychic senses will be heightened in 2022 since the new moon is activating your eighth house on Jan. 2nd. Creating your own homemade smudging spray for you to carry throughout your day will help you reset your energy and clear uncertainty from your third eye so you can continue being the intuitive chingona you are! Use the below ritual to mindfully create a smudge spray for your on-the-go protection booster. 

Items needed:

1. Glass or plastic empty spray bottle. 
2.  1 crystal quartz
3.  Purified Water 
4.  Lavender essential oil or Lavender spiritual cologne (not perfume)
5. Lemongrass essential oil or lemongrass dried

Ritual Steps:
1.  If you’re using dried lemongrass, boil it in water to create your own lemongrass water. About 4 ounces. Then add to your spray bottle.
 2. Add 4-5 drops of lavender essential oil or lavender spiritual cologne into spray bottle.
 3. Place your crystal quartz inside the spray bottle.
 4. Call in the Archangels to assist you in blessing the water inside your spray bottle. Take your time as needed.
5. Close the spray bottle tightly. Mix well.
 6. Enjoy and spray over your entire aura as needed when feeling low or needing to cut ties with bad energy.

Virgo

Being a sign that thrives off structure and routine, 2021 definitely had you navigating byway of your intuition more than you would have hoped. In the process, you could have experienced anger and grief this year, specifically. Below is a ritual to help you open up your heart chakra to release grief and welcome change. 

Items needed:

1.       Dried Yerba Santa Bundle (please make sure it is ethically sourced)
2.       Black tourmaline crystal stone
3.       Bowl of purified water with salt soaking inside

Ritual Steps:

1.   Set your full water bowl with salt soaking inside in the middle of the room you wish to cleanse
2.   Light your yerba santa bundle and state a protection intention
3.   Work your smoke of your yerba santa starting in the north corner of the room working your way to the east corner, south corner and concluding in the west corner.
4.   Direct the energy you’re clearing with your yerba santa towards the bowl of salt water.
5.   The bowl of salt water will soak up all the energy you’re needing to release from grief to confusion that you might have experienced this year.
6.   Once done using smoke out within all parameters of the room please place it safely where it can extinguish itself until the smoke goes out.
7.   Center yourself in the middle of the room standing or seated with your black tourmaline (make sure you cleanse the black tourmaline as well).
8.   Black tourmaline will help ground you and provide you with protection.
9.   Connect your roots of your feet or root chakra with mother Earth asking her in gratitude for continued support in grounding you as you navigate any lingering grief.
10.  Take about 5 mins or longer (whatever you prefer) to meditate and connect with black tourmaline to ground you. If possible, keep it with you until you feel you no longer energetically need its support (weeks to months long).

Wow! Did you not close out 2021 doing some heavy energy work or what? The last bit of 2021 was likely busy and chaotic for you. At the very least, full of purging. It’s time to wipe off the lingering malas vibras and begin anew. Use this simple spiritual bath to open new roads for you. You’re about to step into a new version of you. Get ready and enjoy the ascension process. 

Items needed:

1.   1 bottle of Florida Water.
2.   Epsom salt.
3.   A white candle.
4.   Ability to visualize.

Ritual steps:

1.   Light white candle. Ask the moon to oversee your candle and cleanse you energetically. 
2.  Pray over your white candle with an intention stating what your purpose of use is (e.g. connecting with your higher self, asking the divine for assistance in centering and protection).
3.  Place white candle in the bathroom with you.
4.  Run a warm bath and pour Epsom salt (2 tablespoons) and 1 cup of Florida Water into the bath. Allow yourself to soak in the bath for however long you need to cleanse. Pour the bath water over your head (crown chakra) to touch all areas of your body. Reflect on your desires.
5.   Once done, extinguish the candle and state your gratitude to the spirit of mother moon. 
6.   Light your candle for the next nine days straight as long and often as you can. Safely.

Capricorn

How exciting to kick-off 2022 with a new moon in your sign two days into the New Year! Are you ready for abundance? 2022 will be bringing exactly that for your Earth sign! Here is a road opener ritual to get you prepped for success. Being that Saturn is your ruling planet, it’s only appropriate to call in Saturn’s energy to give you the wisdom and craft to maneuver the year ahead. 

Items needed:

1.       Road opener oil from your botánica or spiritual shop.
2.       Copal and charcoal (3 Kings brand is preferred) and a cauldron or burner to burn in.
3.       Fennel seeds

Limpia Steps:

1.  Always have a bucket of water nearby to safely extinguish in case of emergency.
2.  Pray over your fennel seeds and connect with your higher calling for protection in this road opener limpia (cleanse) as you want to release any blockages in your path from any miscommunication you experienced in 2021.
3.  Light charcoal block until it sparks and place inside your cauldron or pot.
4.  Place copal carefully onto the charcoal and the fennel seeds on top while charcoal is lit and heated. Pour some road opener oil onto it and allow it to smoke.
5.   Perform a self limpia. Use the smoke of these sacred herbs and tools to wash over your head. Scoop the smoke over your head and over every chakra point down to the soles of your feet. Then work your entire room or home with windows open. Call in Saturn to protect and ground your home and your intentions for 2022.
6.   Work the cauldron in a circular manner over your arms and legs until it goes out.
7.  Remaining smoke you can use to cleanse crystals or important items you’ll work with in 2022 such as divination tools.
8.  Close in gratitude to the spirits of copal, Saturn and to your spirit guides.

Items needed:

1.       Internet access via phone, laptop or pc.
2.       You can create this in your Canva or Pinterest account to your liking. 
3.   Set a theme by quarter (seasons, e.g. Jan. – March, April – June, etc.) of which archetype energy you want to invoke that quarter. You can spend quarter one focused on the engineer archetype, quarter two in the building phase, quarter three in the expansion phase, and quarter four in the resting phase. All dependent on your goals for 2022.

Ritual steps:

1.       Plan out your goals for 2022 in career, health, love and spirituality. Include any other areas you feel needed. Categorize these goals by which archetype they fit within as it relates to your quarterly themes.
2.       Build out digital boards on Canva or Pinterest. Use photos/imagery/symbols/colors. Unleash your inner creative, Aquas! No rules. Go ham! Be sure to include photos on how you’re going to co-create and hold yourself accountable as well.
3.       Try to avoid putting hard dates for deadlines so that energy has room to manifest freely. 
4.       Once done, print out photos or your boards and put them on your walls or altars as you would do with any other ritual/intention work. Keep them there for the rest of year and watch them manifest!

Pisces

The traditional egg limpia can never lead you astray. For this limpia (cleanse), you’ll want a cold, uncooked egg in its shell and some egg cascarilla (shell) that you can get from a botanica or make yourself with the egg shell leftover from your second egg used. Pisces, as our favorite empaths of the Zodiac, we are very protective over you! Or at least, I am! You sensitive souls are so giving and equally receiving. It’s important for you to do a limpia monthly so you can release unwanted stagnant energy you pick up from others. Here is your egg limpia ritual for protection.

Items needed:

1.       2 cold unused regular egg (doesn’t have to be organic)
2.       1 glass, clear, clean cup filled with water more than halfway, but not completely full. 
3.       The ability to pray and visualize.
4.       Mortar, pestle or molcajete for spiritual uses optional. 

Ritual Steps:

1.  Fill the glass cup with clean water.
2.  Pray over your egg and cup of water and ask your higher power to watch over your session and to bless these items. Ask the egg to release unwanted energies and to share with you messages of your highest good.
3.  Set a glass of water aside. Begin working the hard uncracked egg over your body from your head down to your feet. Gently rubbing it on your skin and body and working the energy downwards to the floor as you progress down your body. Praying intuitively and calling in high vibrational energy to guide you. Ask to release unwanted energies as you do this over your entire body.
4.  Visualize that intention being removed of you and your aura and into the egg. Visualize the element of water cleansing and purifying you. Once you feel you’re done, crack the egg over the glass over water and allow yolk to fall into glass. 
5.  Let the egg yolk fall and settle into the glass for at least 5-10 minutes. Don’t move it at all and don’t let anyone touch it. Throw the egg shells from egg that performed limpia in your trash right away. 
6.  After 5-10 mins read the yolk in the glass. Observe the bubbles, the strings and see if you intuitively “read” or channel messages or symbols. Sometimes you can see figures and eyes in the yolk. If you don’t want to do any of this you can just flush the entire water and yolk from within the cup down your toilet and trust that everything was released. 
7. You can draw oracle cards to help you clarify what the egg pulled for you. Then toss the egg in the toilet and flush immediately. Never throw egg down your sink or trash. Wash the cup immediately and keep separately. Never drink out of this cup again. 
8. Next, your 2nd untouched egg. This you will use to create your own cascarilla powder if you didn’t get any at the botanica or shop. Crack the second egg into a cup. Flush yolk away. You won’t read this yolk or do anything with it. 
9. Place the new egg shells into a mortar or pestle or molcajete. If you do not have, place into a sturdy container where you can smash and ground. Ground the eggs shells (you can do this with several eggs if you like), until it becomes a powder substance. Once done, this powder, known as cascarilla, is going to be used to sprinkle over doorways to cleanse and protect your home. Do this on the outside and not inside. You can go a step further and sweep it into your driveaways as well. 
10. Clean up and conclude in gratitude.
