No, this is not an article about cats. If I’m being 100% honest with my readers, I’m TERRIFIED of those creatures. Luckily for me, I’m not on a mission to show you the cutest cats but instead the endless styles for kitten-heels. Hopefully you’re not looking around nervously wondering what “kitten-heels” mean but just in case you are—kitten-heels are shoes with a small slender heel, typically between 1 and 2 inches in height. You’ve probably seen all the doñas wearing them but never thought to grab a pair for yourself.
Well, if you’re anything like me, you strive to stay on top of today’s hottest trends. Although sometimes bold, I try to play around with each new “trend” and make it my own. This was a trend that I found particularly difficult. I’ve seen them for decades in my mom’s closet (and made fun of her for them too!). But they’ve made a comeback these past couple of months and owning a pair is a must. I started off slow with some kitten heel booties and recently worked my way up to slingbacks. It’s a process believe it or not, especially if you’re not a huge fashion risk-taker.
That being said, I have a lot to thank Instagram for. The app serves as my endless #moodboard and source of #inspo. I sit on the train and scroll for hours (or as long as my cellular service permits) to find inspiration on how to style certain trends, kitten heels being no different. Using IG, I’ve put together a couple of my favorite fits that should spark some inspiration in you to go grab your own pair!
You can easily dress them up.
Perfect for the spring, this millennial pink blazer and pant combo are the perfect match with Olivia’s white kitten-heel mules!
They can amp up even your most casual outfit.
We know a warrior when we see one and Kyrzayda has been slayin’ even more than usual lately. As you may know, Kyrzayda is a fashion-blogger who is currently fighting cancer. However, she hasn’t let her health get in the way of her career or her daily IG #inspo. She’s pairing some haute balenciaga kitten-heels with casual ripped jeans and a lovely lace blouse.
They can instantly transform your work outfits.
Trying to make a statement at work? Do as Lauren does! WhoWhatWear fashion editor Lauren Eggerstein pairs her fire-red kitten-heel booties with a plaid blazer and dark black jeans.
You can really go all out in these heels.
Don’t be fooled, kitten-heels are not just casual. Don’t let the small heel make you feel that these shoes are any less elegant than your tall pumps. Sami Miro pairs her Dior pumps with an elegant black dress and small patterned bag.
It gives oversized looks such a feminine touch.
I am absolutely in love with this entire look—it just screams WEST COAST! Tania pairs her white kitten-heel mules with oversized white trousers and a pink fur denim jacket. I’m thinking this might be my next brunch look, thoughts?
It’s the ultimate spring shoe.
Cyndi Ramirez, owner & founder of Chillhouse, a specialty self-care hub in the Lower East Side of Manhattan rocks her PVC kitten-heels with so much “spring-swag!” The pastel colors are in for the season and the wooden Cult Gaia clutch is the perfect pop of color.
Printed kitten heels are everything.
The Nautical print on Tiffany’s dress is just perfect for the printed kitten-heel she’s rockin’. Again, we’re seeing the fur denim jacket but this time with a bodycon dress and square bag. Opt for mixing and matching prints if you’re feeling bold!
Polka-dot kitten heels give off a retro vibe.
Polka-dots, like kitten heels, are a big trend for the season. So why not mix both, right? Alyssa rocks this white minimalistic jumpsuit with her perfect patterned heels for the most coveted spring look.
Kitten-heel booties are a life saver on colder days.
Although we’re just entering spring, you can never be too careful with the unexpected weather. Lauren looks cozy AF in this bubble coat. But the star of her fit? Those patent kitten-heel booties, perfect for all year round.
A pair of white kitten-heel booties is great for transitioning.
Being that we’re just transitioning into spring now (took you long enough Mother Nature!), you still have the opportunity to get some last minute uses to your never-ending collection of booties. I love the delicateness of this maxi dress in contrast to the edginess of the boots! I would throw on a cropped denim jacket and wear this to work any day.
How I wear my kitten-heels.
Lastly, I wanted to show you how I wear my kitten-heels. My newest pair are these Zara black leather slingbacks and I’m obsessed! I recently paired my shoes with some vintage black/grey washed Guess jeans, a plain T-shirt, and my handy-dandy PVC bag. It’s a quick and easy fit to put together, it’s totally work appropriate, and is guaranteed to have you feeling extra in the office.
