Many of us who grew up watching telenovelas are familiar with the famous Mexican actress Edith González. She starred in a number of popular telenovelas including Corazón Salvaje, Salomé, and Doña Bárbara. She had been battling ovarian cancer for the past three years and passed away this morning. González was only 54.

Her death was confirmed this morning by the official Mexican news agency Notimex along with the TV stations she worked with, Televisa and TV Azteca. González’s death still hasn’t been confirmed but it is speculated to be linked to her ovarian cancer. She passed away at the Ángeles Interlomas hospital in Mexico City.

In August of 2016, González revealed that she was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. She became very vocal about her cancer struggle, the treatments she was taking, and her hair loss. She was constantly sharing encouraging and inspirational messages regarding cancer on social media and did a number of talks informing people on how to prevent cancer. González graced the cover of HOLA! Mexico in 2017 with her husband Lorenzo, where she opened up about how she was taking time to face her illness and enjoy her life versus fighting the disease. “I am not a warrior, I am a lover of life,” she said.

And living she did. González made sure to dedicate time with friends and family, did a number empowering talks, all while continuing to work up until her death. She most recently worked as a judge on the Mexican reality show This is My Style.

A photo of González posed with her daughter was posted to her official IG account this morning and has resulted in over 304,560 likes and hundreds of comments. She will be incredibly missed.
