Shakira is kicking off her “Es Latina” concert series—part of her Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran World Tour—in Madrid this Friday, September 18. Over the next four weekends, the 12-concert series will bring together Latine and Spanish artists at the Iberdrola Music venue, celebrating music, food, literature, art, and fashion from all cultures through October 3.
Latinas including Argentinian artist Nathy Peluso, Dominican rapper J Noa, Colombian artist Aria Vega, Boricua singer Gale, Ecuadorian artist La Coya and Mexican musician Iza Tkm will join Shakira.
Other Latine acts include Colombian group Çantamarta, Latin American boy band Santos Bravos, Argentinian artist Louta, Colombian singer Juan Pablo Vega, and Puerto Rican rapper Tommy Blanco.
Shakira’s Madrid residency will take place in Macondo Park, a space built specifically for the “Es Latina” series across two stages. Beyond the shows, the park will feature a museum honoring Shakira’s career, a literary space showcasing Gabriel García Márquez’s work and Latine literature, and activities celebrating Latine fashion, art, food, and dance.
In a press release, Shakira said she wanted to bring Spanish and Latin American artists together because both cultures “share a language, memory, gestures and moments together.” She wrote on Instagram: “I want to celebrate all that talent that unites us: the big names, but also a new generation of young artists who are writing what’s coming in music, fashion, literature, gastronomy, and art.”
