The Bold Shine and the Boring Bomb at The 2017 Met Gala

While May Day was all about the resistance movement and pro-immigrant advocacy, the night was all about FASHION! The most fabulous celebrities in Hollywood, and in fashion, gathered in New York City in honor of the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute celebration known as The Met Gala. Each year a fashion designer is recognized for their iconic contribution to art and fashion and this year it’s all about Comme des Garçons.
Vogue and The Met invited the coolest kids in fashion to celebrate the work of Rei Kawakubo, the Japanese designer for Comme des Garçons. It is proper etiquette for attendees to honor designer by wearing similar aesthetics and/or their designs themselves. So this year’s theme, as The New York Times informs was edgy and asymmetrical but only the true daring delivered while others disappointedly looked like they were just going to prom and not the most entertaining night of fashion.
So without further ado, let’s first look at those who know what fashion is all about.
Helen Lasichanh

Yes, the outfit looks completely bizarre, however, this is art! Helen Lasichanh, Pharrell’s wife wore something our of a crazy dream and that’s why it rocks!
Katy Perry

Co-chair of The Met Gala Katy Perry served it hot! That is her under all that red tule, we swear.
Salma Hayek

While the dress might give the impression of simple and demure, upon further notice you can see a sliver of blue. Underneath the black gown is a pair of Balenciaga pant-boots.
Rihanna

Cake anyone!? We are floored and speechless.
Zendaya

This has to be our favorite look of the night. While it’s not super on theme, the big frizzy hair and parrot-pattern dress is enough to outdo anyone.
Now for the boring queens…

She looks beautiful. She’s with her new man. But this isn’t the oscars.
Kylie Jenner

“Honestly, I don’t even know it just happened,” Kylie told E! about how this look came about. “They sent me a bunch of design options and I just fell in love with this one. It’s like a waterfall effect.” Another nude dress. Been there, done that.
Selena Gomez

Her makeup was in fact on point, but this pink slip dress made me sleepy.
This dress, however, got the most buzz…

Back from her Pepsi fiasco, Kendall Jenner wore a nothing-there dress courtesy of La Perla, whom are known for their exquisite lingerie.
And that wraps up another Met Gala. See ya’ll next year!
