July 20 marks the birthday of legendary rock superstar, humanitarian, and one of the best guitarists of all time, Carlos Santana. In celebration, we are sharing seven of his biggest hits (with videos included!). Because we are “so smooth.”
“Evil Ways”
Released in 1969 (and performed at the iconic Woodstock Festival), “Evil Ways” was one of the jams Carlos Santana had while with the band Santana. It reached #9 on the Billboard Hot 100 charts on March 21, 1970.

Santana’s “Samba Pa Ti” was released in 1970. This slow jam is an iconic oldie but goodie.

“Black Magic Woman” (1970)

Another recognizable hit that Carlos Santana had while part of the band Santana was “Black Magic Woman.” This song was released in 1970, and peaked at #4 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

“Oye Como Va” was originally a Tito Puente jam, written in 1962. Santana covered the song in 1971, and the rest is history. The album the song is on, Abraxas, reached #1 on the Billboard 200 chart.

“Smooth” (1999)
Carlos Santana had a major comeback with his 1999 album, “Supernatural.” The album holds the records for the most Grammys won by an album in one night (nine!), and one of its singles, “Smooth,” topped the Billboard Hot 100 chart for 12 weeks and won three Grammys.

“Maria Maria” also reached #1 on the Billboard Hot 100. This song made many a girl wish her name was Maria, and filled us with Latino pride.

“The Game of Love” (2002)
“Supernatural” was all about perfect duets. Santana on guitar, and a vocalist adding their special touch to the equation. Michelle Branch made “The Game of Love” a cute pop song, one that peaked at #5 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, and won a Grammy.
