A devastating tornado ripped through northern Dallas, Texas, last night at around 9 p.m. Fortunately, no deaths were reported, only non-critical injuries. Rescue teams will continue to go door-to-door to make sure residents are okay. Several schools are closed today due to damages the facilities sustained during the tornado. Also, an estimated 65,000 to 150,000 people were left with no power.
The Washington Post reports that the storms last night included “70 mph winds, heavy rain, lightning, and half-dollar-sized hail.”
Images on Twitter show an incredibly frightening tornado with images showing freeways with debris, homes with severe damage, businesses completely ruined, a semi-trunk turned over, and a roof from a church was completely torn off. A fire station also reported a lot of damage to their building, thankfully none of the firemen were hurt.

“The Dallas Police Department and Dallas Fire-Rescue are assessing damaged structures and will continue to do so throughout the night,” the city said in a news release, according to The Washington Post.
Some of the most damaged homes appear to be located on Pemberton Drive near Royal Lane. Jeff Nguyen, who lives in that area, recalled to Fox 4 News that he quickly went to get his wife and kids when the siren alert went off.

“My wife kind of made it up the stairs [and] was trying to make it up the stairs first, and then I guess that’s when the tornado maybe blew the roof off because the attic doors flew open and it pretty much threw her back down the stairs. I kind of pushed her down and got past her and got upstairs. My son was up in his bed with the covers over him. The window blew out and flew into the side of his bed. If he didn’t have a bunk bed, I don’t know where it would have landed on him. But that probably saved him,” he said.
The report of the tornado was issued last night at 9 p.m. with the cautionary note that it was a life-threatening tornado and that people should take cover as soon as possible.

“Flying debris will be dangerous to those caught without shelter. Mobile homes will be damaged or destroyed. Damage to roofs, windows, and vehicles will occur. Tree damage is likely,” the weather report stated. “This dangerous storm will be near… Dallas Love Field…University Park and Highland Park…Garland and Mesquite. Other locations impacted by this tornadic thunderstorm include Buckingham PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS. TAKE COVER NOW! Move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building. Avoid windows. If you are outdoors, in a mobile home, or in a vehicle, move to the closest substantial shelter and protect yourself from flying debris.”
While some did take cover, other people could not help but record the impact of the tornado.
