Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez might be part of a new squad now that she and Bernie Sanders have connected with Ariana Grande to form the unlikeliest trio. On Friday, the pop songstress tweeted lyrics from her track “Good as Hell” remix with Lizzo asking her 67 million followers, “Baby how u feelin?” and presidential candidate Bernie Sanders responded with “Ready to fight for Medicare for All.”

After Sanders’ retweet, Grande posted that she was “screaming,” but then the political power on her timeline increased exponentially when AOC joined the conversation. AOC, who recently endorsed Sanders for the 2020 presidential election, chimed in sharing her own “progressive policies as an Ariana [Grande] dance party.”

The progressive New York representative matched some of Grande’s biggest singles to policies she wants to see passed and so on. In the process, AOC surprised a lot of fans with her thorough knowledge of Grande’s discography.

First up was the recent chart-topper “thank u, next,” which she matched to Sanders’ goal of replacing for-profit health insurance with Medicare For All — the title says it all in advocating for a change from the norm. Up next was “God is a Woman,” which was matched to the end of the Hyde Amendment, which has banned Medicaid and federal public health insurance from covering abortion procedures since 1976.

Earlier this year, AOC launched a petition to repeal it, arguing it was detrimental to low-income Americans and women of color. “It’s not the 70s anymore. This is 2019, and none of our leaders should be willing to stand by a policy that disproportionately harms low-income Americans and people of color just to suit the interests of anti-choice zealots,” she wrote in an email to supporters.

She then tackled school loans with Grande’s “Break Free” to promote student debt forgiveness — an issue Sanders has been a vocal supporter of recently announcing a plan to cancel all $1.6 trillion of student loan debt. His plan has no eligibility criteria and will be available to approximately 45 million student loan borrowers of both federal student loans and private student loans.

AOC ended her playlist by highlighting her proposed climate plan — the Green New Deal — which aims to solve the climate crisis with actions that’ll get the nation to net-zero greenhouse gas emissions and 100 percent renewable energy by 2030. The plan includes building a nationwide smart electricity grid powered by renewable sources, creating 20 million jobs by transitioning to 100 percent clean renewable energy and focusing on sustainable and regenerative agriculture.

For this, she chose Grande’s “Be Alright” which includes the lyrics: “Can’t seem to get where we’re going/But the hard times are golden/’Cause they all lead to better days/ We’re gonna be alright.”

Grande not only retweeted the list, she then went on Instagram and posted their tweets and captioned it with “won’t be getting over this any time ever.”

In the comments, Demi Lovato commented if AOC could be part of their “girl group.”

AOC will always have her original Squad but this powerhouse trio is a testament to how music (and similar political views) can unite people.
