Eva Longoria is on a roll with her upcoming feature film directorial debut with Flamin’ Hot and starring and executive producing the Apple TV+ series Land of Women. Now she’s set to helm the Spanish-language remake of the French series Call My Agent!, a global hit since its debut on Netflix, Variety first reported. It will mark the first adaptation targeting Latin America and the U.S., after successful international remakes. The original series ran for four seasons though it was announced it would return with a TV film and a fifth season. The comedy-drama set at the Parisian talent agency ASK, has well-known actors play exaggerated versions of themselves with the staff having to cope with their issues as well as their own.
“Like so many people around the globe, I’ve been a huge fan of the original series since it first premiered,” Longoria said in a statement. “I’m so excited to partner with Mediawan and Elefantec Global to bring one of the greatest properties that gives a witty and satirical look behind the curtain of the entertainment industry for the Spanish-speaking American market.”
In addition to producing the show, she’s the CEO of her production company UnbeliEVAble Entertainment, Longoria will also direct the first two episodes, Deadline reported. She’s joining forces with her husband Jose ‘Pepe’ Bastón who is the CEO of Elefantec to bring the show to Latin American audiences. “Made with Latin flavor for a global audience, we are sure this iteration will find success and viewers worldwide,” Bastón said in a statement.
Longoria is currently prepping for the June release of Flamin’ Hot, inspired by the story of Flamin’ Hot Cheetos inventor Richard Montañez, which premiered at SXSW and won the Audience Award. Some of the other projects she also has in the works include Alexander and the Terrible, No Good, Very Bad Day with George Lopez and an untitled LGBTQ+ wedding comedy feature film for Amazon Studios with Gabrielle Union. Recently her CNN Original Series Eva Longoria: Searching for Mexico premiered on Sunday, March 26 and it will regularly air on Sundays at 9pm ET/PT. The six-part series follows Longoria across the many regions of Mexico examining the various cuisines.
“A lot of people think Mexico is tacos and tequila, right? And it’s so much more — it’s so diverse and it’s so elevated,” Longoria told CNN. “I think people are going to not only fall in love with the food, but the people. … It’s a jewel of a country.”
No word yet on when the remake of Call My Agent! will go into production and premiere but if it’s as witty as the original we’re sure it’ll be a success.
