Bad Bunny just dropped his new album Un Verano Sin Ti and surprise, surprise, it already broke two Spotify records on its first day of release (so far, at least)! Since its drop on May 6, not only has the album become the most-streamed album of 2022 on Spotify, but the Puerto Rican superstar has also become the most-streamed artist in the world, earning 183 million streams in one day, according to Billboard. The record was previously held by Drake, who earned 176.8 million streams in a day. Now, with just one album, Bad Bunny is claiming the coveted top spot.

“The album is very Caribbean, in every sense: with its reggaeton, it’s mambo, with all those rhythms, and I like it that way,” he said in a recent interview with the New York Times. “It’s a record to play in the summer, on the beach, as a playlist.”

In addition to his record-breaking streak on the streaming platform, all 23 tracks on his album found their way to the top 30 of Spotify’s Daily Top Songs Global chart, including “Moscow Mule” and “Me Porto Bonito” featuring fellow Puerto Rican singer Chencho Corleone.

Nine of the album’s songs have also been ranked in the Top 10 of that Global chart. And as of today, Un Verano Sin Ti holds the #1 spot in Spotify’s most recent Top Albums Debut Global Chart, which ranks new albums released internationally from May 6-8. But this album is also getting attention and acclaim for raising awareness of femicide through the single, “Andrea”, a collaboration with the band Buscabulla.  Husband and wife Luis Alfredo Del Valle and Raquel Berrios are the duo behind the band and they shared with the NY Time’s “I felt that the chorus had to carry a lot of weight about what it means to be a woman from the Caribbean. I had never worked this hard for a song,” Berrios told the publication. A Puerto Rican woman named Andrea Ruiz was killed by her ex-boyfriend after the court denied her request for a restraining order.

In addition to the album, fans can check out the  Spotify exclusive original film Los Elementos Del Verano  May 13 where Bad Bunny shares his favorite things about his beloved Puerto Rico and how it has influenced his music.

Breaking records and making history has been nothing new for the global superstar since his rise to popularity in 2018. At the end of last year, Benito was the most streamed artist on Spotify for the second time in a row. Even further back in 2020, his then-most recent album El Último Tour del Mundo was the No. 1 album in the U.S., the first time in Billboard history that a Spanish-language album was crowned the honor.

More recently, the singer confirmed that since turning to acting, he will be the first Latino actor to lead a live-action Marvel movie in the media giant’s history. He is set to star as El Muerto, a masked wrestler who appears in a Spider-Man comic.

“It’s amazing. it’s incredible. I love wrestling. I grew up watching it and now I’m a wrestler,” he said, according to Entertainment Weekly. “This is why I love this character. I think it’s the perfect role to me, it will be epic.”

We love to see Bad Bunny succeeding in industries that often don’t include folks from our community and can’t wait to see what records the singer will break next!
