Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is probably the most recognizable freshman lawmaker on Capitol Hill. That may be due to her historic win, making her the youngest representative to be elected, or because of her controversial policies. Either way, for bipartisan lawmakers, Ocasio-Cortez is stirring the pot. But is that such a bad thing?

For many liberal voters, Ocasio-Cortez’s views on free healthcare, free higher learning, and environmental laws, are gladly welcomed. She’s reenergized the Democratic party and bringing much-needed change to the way things get done in Washington. For others, however, who believe she’s too radical and is only hurting the Democratic party, they’re eyeing ways to get Ocasio-Cortez out of office. That’s at least what some people are saying.

According to The Hill, at least one House Democrat — who chose to remain anonymous — would like to see  Ocasio-Cortez out of office and is looking for candidate hopefuls from the Bronx or Queens to run against her in 2020.

“What I have recommended to the New York delegation is that you find her a primary opponent and make her a one-term congressperson,” the Democrat lawmaker, said to the political website. “You’ve got numerous council people and state legislators who’ve been waiting 20 years for that seat. I’m sure they can find numerous people who want that seat in that district.”

Could this be true? Is the Democratic party that scared and intimidated by her and her ideas? Another news outlet, this time a conservative one (The Daily Caller), went even further and said that a veteran New York Democratic strategist named possible challengers, which are City Councilman James Van Bramer, State Senator Julia Salazar, and State Assemblywoman Catalina Cruz.

Ocasio-Cortez responded to the idea that Democrats are looking for people to challenge her by tweeting: “Whoever is paying this ‘Veteran NY Dem Strategist’ is getting totally fleeced,” and ended the tweet with a laughing emoji. She doesn’t seem to be bothered by it at all. The people that the strategist named as potential challengers against Ocasio-Cortez also went on record and scoffed at the claim.

Cruz tweeted, “@dailycaller clearly doesn’t have a fact-checking department- ya’ll over there gossiping, and we are over here doing the work @AOC #HermanasEnLaLucha #NiceTryTho.” Salazar also tweeted: “The Daily Caller is trash. 1. I would never primary @AOC, even if I lived in her district (which I do not). 2. I have no intentions of ever running for Congress. 3. Who on earth calls Jimmy Van Bramer ‘James?'” Van Bramer tweeted the same sentiment, “This whole thing is crazy. I’m kind of loving having @AOC as my Congressmember! I’m not taking her on. I’m backing her up!”
