Along with the series, AwesomenessTV will also debut a short-form episode, “My Dream Quinceañera: Never Too Late,” that will follow the story of a trans woman, Juliet, who was never given the opportunity for a quinceañera which will be available across their social platforms.
The Paramount+ series centers on Bayle Delgado, Romi Herrada and Angelica Luna who go through simultaneous fun and drama-filled journeys to celebrate the coming-of-age birthday parties of their dreams, according to a press release. All three teens will have the help of expert quinceañera planner Maria Perez to help make all their quince wishes come true.
“One of the most special ways to commemorate a girl’s 15th birthday party is with a quinceañera. Knowing that this culturally rich celebration is a rite of passage for many young women and there is so much planning that goes into it, I was very intentional when it came to honoring the girls’ wishes,” Perez tells HipLatina. “I made sure their voices were heard and worked closely with them to bring specific visions to life—whether they wanted a specific food, theme, visual display, or ways to incorporate a special family member—it was important for the girls to bring to life all of the different elements for their quinceañeras.”‘
She shares that one of the most memorable moments from the show are the ways Angelica and Bayle honored family members during the celebration. The emphasis is not only on the fashion and fun, it’s also familly and sharing such an important moment in life with loved ones. The first three episodes of the 10 episode series will be available on Friday, Sept. 16, followed by a weekly release of the season’s remaining seven episodes.
“It has been a great honor to be a part of this series. I’ve been given a chance to educate more people on quinceañeras and Latinx culture. It exposes a greater group of people to the significance of quinceañeras and the meanings behind the ceremonies,” Luna tells HipLatina. “Being a part of this series also means helping other people who are planning quinceañeras and being a guide to those who are unfamiliar with the work that goes into one. It’s been a great experience and I hope to inspire other girls. I’m also excited that other girls like me will see themselves represented on TV.”
