When you think about food in Texas, your mind may initially think of BBQ and big steaks. But don’t be fooled by the carnivorous Texas folk, there are plenty of delicious and healthy options where your food won’t be doused in BBQ sauce – though that’s also a yummy option. Since the state of Texas is huge, we narrowed our search and looked into the nutritious options Houston has to offer, and were definitely not disappointed. Here are three restaurants every health-conscious foodie is definitely going to want to check out.

True Food Kitchen

This restaurant sounds healthy from the get-go, as its name is meant to reflect the seasonal, nutritious, health-conscious dishes on the menu. In other words, the food served here is always real (or “true”), just as nature intended. No additives, unhealthy ingredients that sacrifice nutrition for taste, or bad quality produce is used here. Only the freshest foods available are part of the flavorful menu that caters to as many healthy eaters as possible, including gluten-free, vegetarian, vegan, and of course, organic meals. Signature dishes include the spaghetti squash casserole, the Inside Out quinoa burger, hearty bowls, healthy pizzas, and delicious, guilt-free desserts. Just like the food, the cocktails are seasonal and made with fresh-pressed fruit and vegetable juices (just because you’re drinking alcohol it doesn’t mean you can’t do it right! Right?).

Green Seed Vegan

Named one of the best vegan restaurants in the US by Food & Wine, Green Seed Vegan’s menu is 100 percent vegan and soy free, and also offers countless gluten-free options. The bread in all their fresh-pressed paninis and sandwiches can be replaced with brown rice or collard wraps, or be served over a bed of microgreens. The fun and appetizing fillings in these “handheld delights” include buckwheat quinoa patties and BBQ jackfruit, and this can all be served with fun sides and add-ons like cauliflower nuggets, seasonal kale chips, or raw zucchini bacon. Speaking of “raw”, there are several options for raw food eaters on the menu, including a hemp nut burger, tacos made with coconut cilantro tortillas, and a bowl of zucchini, yam, and kelp noodles with almond sauce. As would be expected from such a health-focused eatery, cold-pressed juices, smoothies, elixirs, health shots, and gluten-free vegan desserts also abound.
