Selena Gomez has been battling lupus publicly since around 2014. Over the years the autoimmune disease, which can lead to the body attacking its own organs and tissues, took its toll on the pop star. By this year, she was in need of a kidney transplant, but with no match in sight, she was uncertain about her future. That is, until her friend Francia Raísa boldly stepped up to offer her kidney. The transplant took place this summer and for the first time, the two besties spoke about the process on NBC’s The Today Show.
