Cleaning holds a special place in my heart. I remember waking up Saturday mornings to the sounds of cumbias and the fresh smell of cleaning products filling the air as mami prepared to make our home sparkle. Chores were part of our daily routine, but when springtime came around, we knew it was time to clean the house de cabo a rabo. Music was a must to get us through the to-do list and dance breaks with mami were how I learned to dance to the rhythm of our ancestors. My mom taught me all I know– including the cleaning tips she learned from her time as a professional nanny, so keep reading for some expert advice from my mami!

Clean Everything – Top to Bottom

Take this time to start a deep cleanse from the top with ceiling fans and light fixtures, to the bottom, with floors and carpets. Mami pro tip? Use a vacuum with an extension hose to get rid of hard-to-reach dust and top off everything with Clorox® Multi-Surface Disinfecting Mist (used as directed). Now you’ll have a clean and disinfected space full of fresh air!

Don’t Forget Your Walls & Windows

This chore is the definition of spring cleaning– you usually only do it once a year! As spring comes around, allergens are circulating in the air, so beat the allergies this season by wiping away all the dust and build-up on your walls and windows.

If you have white curtains, be sure to use the Clorox® Disinfecting Bleach to wash them. Not only will it help make your curtains whiter, but it will also kill 99.9% of germs and bacteria when used as directed. Win, win.

Reorganize Your Pantry

Clearing and reorganizing your cupboards can help weed out expired items and make way for refreshing springtime snacks.

Start by taking everything out of your pantry section by section. Then, clean your shelves with Clorox® Disinfecting Wipes. The wipes will help get rid of any dust and grime, killing 99.9% of viruses and bacteria when used as directed. Finally, get to organizing! You can separate groceries by categories such as salty snacks, sweet snacks, baking supplies, canned goods, etc. Growing up, mami didn’t waste anything in our house, so this was also an easy way to make use of every item in our pantry.

Put Away Your Winter Items

Young woman sorting clothes in cardboard boxes labeled "keep", "donate", and "trash"Springtime always means warmer weather, so putting away your winter items is a must! Store them in the farthest corner of your closet or invest in vacuumed sealed bags to make the most out of your space. The best part? Now you have room in your closet for new spring fashion!

Change The Vibe

Think pastel-colored flowers, soft knit throws, and earthy-scented candles.

Ultimately, spring cleaning is all about the little details that tend to get overlooked on a regular basis. And as my mami always says, “manos a la obra en la hora de limpiar”. In other words, teamwork makes the dream work. So whether you’re spring cleaning with your entire family, your spouse or a friend, look at it as spending quality time with your loved ones and have some fun while you’re at it.
