Watch Shakira Cover Selena’s ‘Amor Prohibido’ A Cappella
In a 2002 appearance on 'Otro Rollo,' Shakira honored the Queen of Tejano with an impromptu rendition of her hit

Shakira and Selena Quintanilla are two of the most successful and beloved Latina musicians of all time. Because the Queen of Tejano music died in 1995, the world never got a collaboration between these two icons. But did you know Shakira once covered Selena?
In 2002, Shakira made a special guest appearance on the Mexican sketch show Otro Rollo. During a musical game, she performed the chorus of Selena’s “Amor Prohibido” a cappella, prompting the audience to clap along.
That isn’t the only time Shakira has paid homage to Selena. In 2024, she released “Entre Paréntesis” with Grupo Frontera as part of her album Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran.
In the song’s music video, Shakira honors Selena by recreating some of her iconic dance moves and writing on Instagram: “My little tribute with all my love to Selena, one of the most beautiful and greatest artists of all time!”
