Café Bustelo Is Giving Latinx College Students Thousands In Scholarships

Paying for college tuition is one of the biggest problems that plagues students in the United States

Paying for college tuition is one of the biggest problems that plagues students in the United States. The rise in student loans is also one of the reasons graduates can’t get out of debt. So it makes sense that college scholarships is the main ticket to financial freedom after graduation. While there’s a slew of scholarships available, the situation always seems more complicated for Latinx students.

Café Bustelo is making it easier for them as they are one of the corporations to offer scholarships specifically to Latinx students. According to the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU) — who is once again partnering with Café Bustelo — they have already awarded $180,000 in college scholarships to 36 Latinx students nationwide.

Since college students need coffee to survive school it’s only fitting that Café Bustelo pays for some of it too, right? Here’s how to apply:

“Eligible U.S. students can submit their application for the opportunity to receive one of ten $5,000 scholarships. All eligible applications must be received by Friday, May 25, 2018 at 11:59 p.m. ET, and recipients will be announced on or about September 15, 2018. The scholarship is open to full-time undergraduate and graduate students, must be over 18, you must be enrolled in a four-year HACU-member institution (your school of choice is most likely under those guidelines), must be of Latino descent, and you must submit an 800 word essay.

So what’s the topic? “Describe how your Latino heritage, family and the community in which you grew up have impacted your desire and motivation to obtain a college degree. Additionally, describe what you intend to accomplish with your degree and how you will give back to your community.”
