Gina Rodriguez Will Star in A New ‘Scooby-Doo’ Movie
Hey, Scooby! The beloved gullible, yet sweet doggie and his friends are back with some very familiar voices
Hey, Scooby! The beloved gullible, yet sweet doggie and his friends are back with some very familiar voices. A Scooby-Doo animated feature film is in the works, and Gina Rodriguez will be voicing the role of Velma — the smartest one in the bunch! The film is set to release for 2020.
Aside from Rodriguez, Scooby-Doo will also feature actor Will Forte as the voice of Shaggy. Tracy Morgan will voice Captain Caveman — and if you’re wondering who that is, according to The Hollywood Reporter, the character is “not part of the Scooby universe, but rather part of the larger Hanna-Barbera cartoon universe.” The rest of the cast has yet to be announced.
This Scooby-Doo new movie won’t be your average Scooby movie. “The story sees the Mystery Inc. gang join forces with other heroes of the Hanna-Barbera universe to save the world from Dick Dastardly and his evil plans…and this time, we are told, the threat is real,” according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Rodriguez’s role in the new Scooby-Doo movie is just the latest in a line of projects for the actress. As we reported, she will also be starring as Carmen Sandiego and is also releasing the comedy Someone Great later this year. This month she is also wrapping up her breakthrough role of Jane Villanueva in Jane The Virgin.
The show that won her a Golden Globe 2015 for Best Actress in a Comedy Series is finally coming to an end, which is a huge bummer for fans of the show. However, Jane the Virgin already has a spin-off in the works, so don’t be too sad! Newcomer Jacqueline Grace Lopez, who you may remember from East Los High, will star as Estela in the lead in Jane the Novela.
Rodriguez’s Scooby role announcement comes on the heels of her last feature film release Miss Bala.
