Best-selling superhero series La Borinqueña, centered around an Afro-Boricua superheroine named Marisol Rios De La Luz, recently revealed a new hardcover collection and action figures. Award-winning graphic novelist and philanthropist Edgardo Miranda-Rodriguez, who created the comic series, is set to release La Borinqueña Volume 1, a hardcover edition collecting 300-plus pages from his first four graphic novels, along with a set of four action figures featuring La Borinqueña. The collection includes the first graphic novel of the series ‘La Borinqueña,’ released in 2016, as well as ‘La Borinqueña #2’ (2018), ‘La Borinqueña #3’ (2021), and the critically-acclaimed 2022 collaboration with Boricua actress Rosario Dawson ‘La Borinqueña Guest Starring Rosario Dawson.’ La Borinqueña’s action figure set, produced by Boss Fight Studio, will include 1:12 scale figures of La Borinqueña, Luz, Oro El Coqui Dorado, and La Gargola.

“Wherever comics expand into, I can see La Borinqueña doing the same because she’s that dynamic of a character. That’s the kind of hero I want to be,” Dawson said in a press release.

The volume will include the first full-story arc of Miranda-Rodriguez’s titular character since its 2016 debut. It is the only comic book series dedicated to philanthropic work in Puerto Rico, and a portion of the collection’s sales will support Miranda-Rodriguez’s continued charity work with the La Borinqueña Grant Awards program, which has already raised and awarded $200,000 in grants to nonprofits throughout Puerto Rico.

Additionally, the Smithsonian Institution will be adding ‘La Borinqueña Vol. 1’ and the DC Comics team-up graphic novel ‘Ricanstruction: Reminiscing & Rebuilding Puerto Rico’ to the “Taíno: Native Heritage and Identity in the Caribbean” exhibit, which is a part of the permanent collection at the Smithsonian National Museum of the American Indian.
