Selena Loved This Nail Polish

Another Selena beauty fact we were able to uncover is the exact shade of one of her favorite nail polishes. The legend wore L’Oreal Creme nail polish in Sangria (257), a wine-colored hue. In the film Selena, for accuracy, Jennifer Lopez also wore this exact same nail color. You might be able to nab a bottle of the discontinued hue online, but we are sharing this pic of a wearer donning the exact color so you can also find the best color-matched dupe.

The Colors Were Formulated from Selena’s Own Makeup

What makes the Selena MAC collection so special is that they were colors the icon wore herself wore. This is because Suzette supplied MAC with photos of cosmetics from Selena’s own makeup case. She told the brand, “Selena’s line is based on her personal makeup, that she had when she passed. I have everything of hers. I wanted the colors to be about her personally, what she wore on and offstage. I took pictures of everything she had in her makeup case, and the colors she was wearing at the time, so her line is actually based on Selena.”

When she sang, Selena’s microphone would naturally become covered with her lipstick. After each show, she would unscrew the microphone, take it apart, and clean it with a toothbrush. The last time she used it, she didn’t have the opportunity to clean it; the mic is now a gift to us, all her fans, as it still has her lipstick on it and lives in the Selena Museum in Corpus Christi, Texas.

Selena’s Short Hair Phase

If you look at old-school photos of Selena, in the ’80s and early ’90s, you will notice her hair is short. A curly bob was the on-trend style of the time, but a few Selena beauty facts are that she permed her hair during this time period, and also dyed it. She actually dyed her hair and fried it, to the point that she had to cut it short. But there’s also a huge possibility that her curls were natural because you could tell even when her hair was blown out. Either way, her short hair phase was cool, and ’90s bobs are back on-trend!

The Reason Why the Ven Conmigo Album is in Black and White

https://www.instagram.com/p/BlUANlTnZSc/

It’s super cool that Selena had a totally DIY approach to her signature style. She would make and embellish her own clothes and boots, and would often do her own makeup and hair. This includes dyeing her hair jet black the night before her photoshoot for the album cover for Ven Conmigo (recorded and released in 199o). Selena got dye on her ear, and in order to hide it, insisted that the cover be shot in black and white, and her hair styled in the mohawk seen in the photo. The rest is history.

Selena Cut Her Own Hair

https://www.instagram.com/p/BxqKyUshrAy/

In 2014, A.B. Quintanilla, Selena’s brother, shared a throwback photo of her with her curly hair and a shoulder-length lob. He lovingly states, “It’s crazy how she could Rock any hairstyle and own it!!! She sometimes would cut her own hair!!!” We aren’t surprised! Selena liked to take an involved, hands-on approach to her image and would DIY a lot; that’s part of the reason why her style is uniquely hers!
