These Fan Reactions Show Why Selena Quintanilla’s Google Doodle Is So Important
“Bidi bidi bom bom,” goes what is arguably Selena Quintanilla’s most famous song
“Bidi bidi bom bom,” goes what is arguably Selena Quintanilla’s most famous song. That is what millions of Google users woke up to with today’s doodle. In honor of the release of her self-titled debut album, Selena, on October 17, 1989, the short, animated video aptly titled “Celebrating Selena Quintanilla” features the familiar story of the star’s rise to fame and ends by directing viewers to a new special exhibit on Google’s Arts and Culture, Celebrating Selena: Fotos y Recuerdos.
Over 22 years after the singer was murdered at age 23 by her fan club manager Yolanda Saldívar, the star’s music and legacy lives on through her fans. From beautiful murals to funny memes to even tees you can rock, Selena Quintanilla continues to live on in the hearts of many. That’s why it is particularly moving to see her honored with her very own Google Doodle tribute and exhibition page.
Meanwhile, fans on Twitter are reacting just as positively to the Google Doodle by posting their heartfelt thanks as they celebrate the later singer with #Selena (which continues to trend since early this morning). As a huge Selena Quintanilla fan myself, I can tell you this: The tears and the joy is real.
Waking up to #Selena trending was the best thing to ever wake up to 🖤💜 She will forever live on, thank you Google 💜🖤

And this is the brilliance of this woman. Even now, she continues to serve as a role model for Latinas young and old around the world. #SiempreSelena
