In this book, Gay Hendricks talks about operating in your “zone of genius.” I read this book once every six months or so. It gives you a whole new perspective on why we tend to stay in “status quo” mode. Making any kind of professional change takes courage and this book helps you unlock the self-confidence you will need to not only take that big leap but feel confident in your own power.

I read this book several years ago and it set me on a path to where I am today as it relates to being multi-passionate. In this book, Margaret Lobenstine talks about life design for those who have too many passions to pick one. Now it’s more acceptable to be multi-passionate and in many professions it’s becoming the standard.

Technically I didn’t “read” this book as it was one of the books I listened to on Audible and I went through the whole book on Saturday afternoon. It was that engaging and fascinating. This book tells the story of Tamara Mellon and her story of bringing the Jimmy Choo empire to life. It’s chock full of cautionary tales told from the perspective of an OG #GirlBoss. If you’re considering entrepreneurship, especially if you are doing so with a partner, this is a MUST read.

Unlabel: Selling You Without Selling Out
No list on career changes would be complete with a how-to guide on brand authenticity. Marc Ecko is the quintessential creative entrepreneur who had to play the role of creative and executive without compromising either. The buzz word these days is “authenticity” and how it’s your competitive edge, as an entrepreneur or employee. This book will take you through a journey of how that creative spark of genius often starts off small but with enough determination can transform into something much bigger.

This book ended up in my mailbox when I was at a co-working space. To this day I don’t know who sent it to me. On my adventure train trip to Los Angeles, my laptop died in Albuquerque. After I stopped crying, I looked inside my bag and there was this book. I read through Chris Gillebeau’s entire book from New Mexico into downtown Los Angeles and realized it was the book for anyone looking to take a leap of faith. The sub-heading: “Reinvent the way you make a living, do what you love, and create a new future” tells you exactly what you will walk away learning from this book.

This book didn’t just transform my business, it transformed my life and how I view goal setting. Rather than pursue the end result, such as the new car, a six-figure salary, or a cool apartment on the Upper West Side, Danielle LaPorte walks you through how to let your desires determine what you strive for. She breaks it down perfectly and gets you in tune with your “core desire feelings” so that you’re tapping into your core desires for why that new car, six-figure salary, or cool apartment is important to you.
Taking that next #GirlBoss move will require you to do some inner work as well as strategic planning. You will want to research industries that align with your bankable skills. You will want to get professional help with preparing your resume. You will also want to do some reflection on why you want to make to make that next move and do a deep dive into your life purpose so that your next #GirlBoss move puts you right where you need to be in order to happy and successful.
