Selena Gomez has entered a treatment facility after being hospitalized twice in the last two weeks, TMZ reports. The 26-year-old singer and actress, who has been open about her depression and anxiety resulting from her ongoing battle with lupus, suffered an emotional breakdown.

“Selena has been trying really hard recently to remain focused, and not let her health affect her,” a source explained to E! News. “She has been actively writing new music, and moved to Orange County for a change of pace and a fresh breath of air. Ultimately, with all of her arising health issues, Selena started to feel super overwhelmed.”

The last week of September, Gomez received medical attention at Cedars-Sinai in Los Angeles after she reportedly became “despondent and emotional” over a low white blood cell count. She returned home several days later but was readmitted the following week because her count didn’t improve, which sparked a downward spiral for the “Wolves” singer.

After demanding to be released from the hospital, sources say Gomez had a breakdown, attempting to rip the IVs out of her arm.

The singer is currently at an East Coast psychiatric facility where she’s receiving dialectical behavior therapy (DBT). DBT is commonly used to help treat various personality disorders and mental illnesses, including bipolar disorder, depression, eating disorders, post-traumatic stress disorder and substance abuse, according to Psychology Today.

“DBT has completely changed my life,” Gomez said in her Vogue interview published last March. “I wish more people would talk about therapy. We girls, we’re taught to be almost too resilient, to be strong and sexy and cool and laid-back, the girl who’s down. We also need to feel allowed to fall apart.”

Gomez has been showing signs of mental stress for the past few weeks. In late September she took yet another break from social media shortly after sending an unusual message to Jennifer Lopez about attending her concert.

News of Gomez’s hospitalization comes a day after World Mental Health Day. The part-Mexican, part Italian star is centering her mental health by choosing to seek treatment and we’re happy she’s putting herself first right now.
