As fans of the hit show Jane the Virginwe’re so excited to see Gina Rodriguez return to our TV screens. She is set to appear in Not Dead Yet, an upcoming comedy series from ABC. Based on the best-selling book Confessions of a Forty-Something F**k Up by Alexandra Potter, the show features Rodriguez, who is of Puerto Rican descent, in the lead role as journalist Nell Stevens. She’s described as “a broke and newly single self-described disaster, working to restart the life and career she left behind 10 years ago. When she lands the only job she can find – writing obituaries, Nell starts getting life advice from an unlikely source,” according to ABC. The network recently confirmed that the series will release its first two episodes on February 8, 2023 on ABC and will also be available to stream on Hulu.

I have been on one of the most incredible journeys for the past 6 months bringing NOT DEAD YET to life,” she said via Instagram. “The cast is outstanding, the guest stars are out of this world, the writing is funny, sweet, hopeful, heartbreaking and everything that is life and I couldn’t be more excited than to share my other baby @notdeadyetabc with you all!!!!”

Having put her entire life into helping her fiancé with his business, she’s left with nothing after the relationship ends. When she moves back home and takes on the only job available to her—writing obituaries—she gains the ability to see ghosts, upending her sense of reality and her beliefs about the afterlife. It’s The Sixth Sense but as a comedy and perhaps we’ll be seeing her character learn some important life lessons from these ghosts — we’ll have to wait and see.

The show will feature a line-up of well-known actors in supporting and guest roles including Hannah Simone (New Girl), Josh Banday (Upload), Jessica S t. Clair (Playing House), and Mary Elizabeth Ellis (Licorice Pizza). Rodriguez first became known in the mainstream in 2014 for her leading role as Jane Gloriana Villanueva in the hit CW series Jane the Virgin, winning a Golden Globe after one season. She has also appeared in and executive produced the Disney+ show Diary of a Future President as Elena Cañero-Reed, and the film Someone Great on Netflix. She will next be seen in Amazon’s Last Known Position, a series adaptation of the popular fiction adventure podcast.

Not Dead Yet will be available to stream on ABC and Hulu on February 8, 2023.
